The Pilates Connection

For more than half a century, a small group of stewards has kept Joseph Pilates' method alive, passing it from teacher to student with its precision intact. Chief among them was Romana Kryzanowska, his longtime student, who taught it for decades.

Wendy, who leads Mind Body, met Romana in New York in the 1980s and was mentored by her, completing her training with Romana in 2000.

Master educators such as Bob Liekens later formalized how the method is taught. All six of our Pilates instructors trained with Romana or Bob.

“You can say what Pilates is in three words: Stretch with Strength and Control. And the control part is the most important because that makes you use your mind.”
Romana Kryzanowska
