MindBody Physical Therapy is pleased to provide two unique services as part of your wellness journey: Massage and Acupuncture.
These two services, offered by trusted partners, provide another way to include these two services within your overall journey.
Therapeutic massage and bodywork provides pain relief, promotes relaxation, aids in rehabilitation, and can be both mentally and physically rejuvenating. Massage not only relieves muscle spasms, tightness and pain, it works well as a preventative tool. Receiving regular massage increases flexibility, reduces muscular injuries and complements other stress reduction practices.
Massage therapy and bodywork not only eases everyday tensions, it increases body awareness and enhances the mind-body connection.
All sessions will include a health screening. These massage services do not diagnose ilnes, disease, or any other physical or mental conditions; and do not constitute medical treatment but are a way in which to maintain one's health and wellness. In your best interest, clients with chronic medical conditions are required to consult with their medical doctor before receiving massage services; and to keep the massage therapist informed of any health changes..
Feedback is important. In order to tailor your massage to meet your needs, during and after your session, you'll be asked about the massage focus and pressure and other questions to aid in giving you an effective and safe massage. All communications and services are professional and confidential. Any sexual misconduct will be grounds for termination of the massage session..
Acupuncture is a natural and holistic approach to promote healing and wellness. It involves energizing various points on the body using tiny sterile needles and re-awakening the body’s natural ability to heal. The various points are viewed as places to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissue. The stimulation increases blood flow, while at the same time triggering the activity of the body’s natural painkillers.
Acupuncture has been practiced for thousands of years, and in the hands of a skilled practitioner it is gentle, painless, and can be highly effective.
Arissa Torrie, MD, MHS, is a board-certified anesthesiologist who practices locally in the Baltimore area. She completed her residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital followed by two fellowships, one at University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Trauma Anesthesiology, and the other in Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Management with an emphasis on Comprehensive medicine incorporating medical acupuncture to address pain.
.
Arissa’s extensive training and her interest in pain management and overall well-being arose from her lived experience. Prior to her medical training, Arissa was an avid equestrian who sustained a traumatic injury, requiring multiple surgeries and years of physical therapy to learn how to walk and function normally.
Arissa was introduced to acupuncture as a modality to help manage her pain and support her recovery. After this firsthand experience of acute and chronic post-injury and post-surgical pain, and experiencing the profound benefits of acupuncture, her passion now lies in educating and helping others to reduce their pain and function optimally so they can live their healthiest lives.
Arissa’s approach to acupuncture draws on her depth of experience, not only as a highly trained medical provider, but also as a patient who has experienced acupuncture firsthand as a potent tool for her own recovery and well being.
